Very soft, not too tight or too loose, the colors are vibrant and striking (I chose the red black combo). The patch isn't a relief like the iron on patches (which is what I had expected) but a flat version of the same images on the patches and buttons. It feels like a fairly tough plastic, possibly vinyl and is very securely sewn on. Overall a very cool hat.
