The Society of Paranormal Investigators (SPI) is a live-action roleplaying venue set in the Chronicles of Darkness, where certain humans awaken a latent spark called Affinity after surviving encounters with the supernatural. These individuals retain their humanity but gain the capacity to perceive and interact with hidden forces that most mortals never see. The SPI, an organization formed from several investigative groups, works to contain supernatural secrets, guide newly awakened individuals, and prevent the rise of hostile hunter movements. Their Affinity also allows contact with Ikons—ancient, conceptual entities that can only influence the mortal world through consenting humans—opening new and dangerous channels between humanity and the unseen.

What to expect:

The chronicle centers on the SPI’s Los Angeles chapter, operating through the unusually inclusive Alpha Tau Omicron fraternity. Long before understanding Affinity, the fraternity’s infamous “Ghost Hunt” initiation inadvertently awakened it in recruits, disguising real supernatural encounters as elaborate hazing. Now adapting to modern anti-hazing policies while secretly monitoring Affinity development, the chapter gathers alumni and members alike in haunted locations to investigate strange phenomena, discuss the hidden world they inhabit, and confront the reality that mortals are no longer the top of the food chain.

Players step into the role of slightly-more-than-human investigators navigating a world of ghosts, monsters, and predatory forces far stronger than themselves. Stories range from cathartic hauntings to lethal horror, where survival depends on wit, technology, cooperation, and a fragile thread of magic rather than brute strength. As Alpha Tau Omicron struggles with recruitment challenges and increasingly dangerous investigations, characters must decide whether they can protect their home, uncover the truth behind Hollywood’s broken dreams, and survive the darkness—or become just another cautionary tale swallowed by it.

Characters will be created by the storyteller team in response to their surveys, in addition to pre-generated characters
